Meet the Dasher: How a PhD Graduate from UK Explores HK Like a Local
After watching numerous Hong Kong movies, Will, who lives in the UK, came to this city around three months ago and saw the place where the West meets the East and cultivates unique culture.
Read on to find out about Will’s journey, explores the food and entertainment of this small yet bustling city and experience staying with Dash Living.
Hello Will! What brings you to Hong Kong?
W: I grew up through cinema in Hong Kong, such as The 36th Chamber of Shaolin or other Steven Chow films, so I knew I always wanted to come here somehow. After finishing my PhD, I applied for the position at Hong Kong University.
Is there anything in Hong Kong or Dash that particularly intrigues you?
W: Hong Kong is so compact and dense that it has a unique energy. I enjoy the landscape here too and access to the sea, beaches etc., as it’s utterly different to the UK or anywhere else I’ve been.
Regarding Dash, living in the Argyle suite has been great so far. The only thing I could do with is more space, so I’ll be thinking about an upgrade to the 1-bedroom in the future.
Have you ever considered living in a hotel?
W: I’ve considered it, but as far as I could see, serviced coliving apartments as Dash Coliving Argyle feel more like a home, which is nice.
Why would you choose to stay in Dash Living?
W: The rooms and views at Dash Living on Argyle from the full-height window are fantastic, bright, and open, and the location in Mong Kok is perfect for my commute to either Hong Kong University or the Science Park in Shatin, NT. The Dash community team is fantastic and cares about your experience as a tenant.
What’s your experience with Dash Living so far?
W: My experience living with Dash so far has been fantastic. The staff are super helpful and responsive to any quick questions or concerns I’ve had. I like how all my bills are combined into the total price for rent, so I don’t have to navigate that stuff. There’s a nice Balcony to relax at the Dash Living on Argyle property!
What are your favourite cuisines?
W: I love south-east Asian food, but I’m starting to appreciate how amazing and diverse Chinese food is! Szechuan style food is something I’m getting into.
What would you like to do in your leisure time?
W: I like to read literature, such as China Mieville or William Gibson’s work, and keep fit. Now that I’m in Hong Kong, I enjoy the opportunity to go hiking so easily, just 20-30 minutes on the MTR or in a taxi, and you’re at the foot of a mountain. Fantastic!
What kind of events are you interested in?
W: I suppose more casual events where people can get together and drink or two. Cocktail parties!
