Meet the Dasher: The Outgoing Intern who’s Affable and Lovable
Thinking of taking a big step and moving to another country for work/study? Changes can often be uncomfortable as you consider the unknowns and unpredictability of living alone, but that’s why we interview Dashers – so that you can learn from them what it’s like to step out of your comfort zone!
Read on and meet Karoline, who came from Germany to intern here in Singapore. She shared with us what she loves about Singapore and what co-living with other Dashers is like.
Hi Karoline, please tell us about yourself!
K: My name is Karoline. I am 22 years old. I hold a Bachelor in Asian Studies and Management China from the University of Constance. Right now, I am doing a volunteer internship at Budding Innovation (a consultancy start-up) in Singapore. I will stay here for 7 months before I go back to Germany and start my Master’s.
How do you find the food in Singapore? What cuisines do you like?
K: It was definitely a huge change, but I love the variety of food you can get. Whatever food you crave, you can find it in Singapore. I think my favourites are definitely Indian and Arabic food.
Wow, those cuisines have some strong flavours! Which area are you living in now and are there any spots in the area you’d recommend to other Dashers?
K: I am currently living in Geylang/Aljunied. The PLQ Mall is quite near and actually a really good alternative to Orchard. You have everything there, starting from shopping stores to massage places to food courts.
Another good thing is that Aljunied is very central, which means you can get to the city centre within a very short period of time.
What about German restaurants? Are there any authentic ones you find good in Singapore?
K: That’s actually a very good question 😂 I have never watched out for a German restaurant because I don’t really miss German food. I really want to try the local food!
Hahaha, glad to know you love Asian food! We know you’ve attended a couple of our community events. How were they and which is your favourite?
K: The events are always a great chance to meet new people 😊 I personally loved the DIY soap-making event.
Ah, we loved that workshop too! Did you make some friends in the community?
K: Oh yes, definitely. Most of them while attending the events.

That’s great 😊 What about your housemates? What is it like co-living with them?
K: I was very warmly welcomed by my roommate once I arrived in Singapore. My roomies are super nice. They are very extroverted and always up for a good talk 😊 I am always looking forward to coming home 😇
We’re so happy you get along well with your housemates! Lastly, “Stay fab live well” is the quote we use in our community. What’s one quote you live by?
K: Discomfort equals growth 📈
