Cook with Dasher: Spanish Tapas and Sangria for Summer
It’s summer! And we can’t help thinking about the blue waves of Southern Europe. While traveling is still not easy, Dasher Kaylee takes us on a sensory tour to Spain and cooks the famous garlic shrimp and yummy sangria. She also chatted about her stay in Dash Living and food recommendations nearby. Continue reading to find out the recipes and more!
Hello Kaylee, can you share a bit more about yourself?
I am a marketer currently working in the blockchain field. I love food and also enjoy doing arts and crafts!
What brings you to Dash Living?
Working in the crypto world can be quite hectic, nearly 24/7. Therefore it would be a lifesaver if I could live in the city center to save time for traveling and get as much sleep as possible! I love cooking and eating with friends. Thus a room with kitchen appliances would be perfect. Shout out to Dash Coliving Argyle which served me well with the prime location and interior.
Let’s start cooking 🙂 Is there any reason for picking these two dishes?
I love garlic and coriander, they deliver such a finger-licking flavour. These are so easy to make yet delicious (and look professional too!), perfect for a summer night. You can follow the step-to-step tutorial below, and I also made some twists due to the lack of ingredients. They still turn out to be a culinary delight!
Gambas al Ajillo (Spanish garlic shrimp)
- Peel and devein shrimp. Leave the last tail on.
- Season shrimp with salt, paprika and red pepper flakes.
- Slice garlic into thin slices
- Heat oil over medium heat. Cook garlic in oil until golden
- Add shrimp and turn heat to high
- Pour in white wine (or dry sherry) when shrimp are starting to curl (but are still undercooked)
- Stir until the sauce is boiling down and the shrimp is well done
- Stir in coriander (or parsley)
Sangria
- Chop the oranges, lemon and green apple into similar-sized pieces
- Add honey and stir well. Also add the Spanish red wine (Rioja) and gin (or any spirit) and stir well.
- Refrigerate overnight
- It is ready to serve! (for bubbling effect, can add a splash of bubbly soda)
Any food recommendations nearby?
Sukiya, when I want a quick meal, it is just downstairs! I also like to order from Night Burning Bird when I want some comfort food takeaways. Shinko and Lab Eat in Mong Kok are good choices if you want to chill out with friends. I would also like to recommend Kopitiam Makan Makan in Tai Kok Tsui, which is around 12 mins walk from the Argyle. They provide very authentic Malaysian food. As I am half Malaysian, you can trust me on this one.
Any memorable experience while staying in Dash Living?
The security guards are super lovely. One midnight while I was carrying loads of stuff, he helped me take them upstairs! (Even he is not supposed to.)
Anything that you like about Dash Living?
I love the Dash Living mobile app. The first thing is that the team quickly replies to inquiries, even on weekends. The second thing is the in-app notifications about the latest perks or events. They remind me to stop working 24/7, give myself self-love, and be involved in community life.
